What can/will my email address be?
Everyone's email address will be in the form: <username>@npwt.net,
where <username> is the username the customer selects. The
username can be two to eight characters, and can contain no spaces or punctuation
except for an underscore (_).
What speed modems does NPWT.NET have?
Our 800 service uses all digital modems which support speeds up to 56 kb/s
(kilobits per second), supporting the K56flex protocol. We intend to upgrade
to V.90, the proposed ITU standard when upgrades are available.
Our local Internet access service uses a number of different modems.
We are currently developing a database of supported speeds for each POP.
Can I use my E.O. Mail card with my Internet Access?
Yes, you can. Currently, to do this you must make a call to Customer Service
and request that this be done. A technician will make the change at our
end, and a software reconfiguration will need to take place at the customer's
end. We plan to make this more streamlined in the future.
Does NPWT offer ISDN or Dedicated Connections?
No. ISDN is a digital telecommunication technology, and while we have the
equipment and the capability to provide it in most areas which have ISDN,
we are not currently marketing it. A dedicated connection is a permanent
connection to the Internet. We do not have the facilities to support dedicated
connections in most areas, and we are not making this available to our
customers.
Can I upload my own HTML web pages?
For your convenience, we support two different ways to place your own web
page on the world wide web. You can use our simple Income Online
forms to generate a page under Net-an-Ad, CompuJob, or KidTrack. Or, if
you prefer, you can create your own HTML documents and upload them to our
user web server. There is no official limit on the storage size of your
pages, as long as they are within reason. Detailed instructions for Uploading
HTML Documents are now available
you will have direct FTP access. All info is given with your
installation software.
Can I share my account?
Yes, you may share your account. However, there are a few things you should
know. First, no two computers may log in with the same account at the
same time. Simultaneous connections are blocked at the modem server.
Also, bear in mind that with one account, you have one mailbox for your
electronic mail. There is no way to seperate your mail. Lastly, the named
account holder may find him or herself held liable for the actions taken
while using the account. Security violations (some of which may be offenses
of law) will be traced back to the account, and actions will be taken against
the account holder. All in all, while you may share accounts, it is generally
not wise unless you have a close relationship with the person you are sharing
the account with.
Can I use an external modem?
Yes, but if your modem is a 28.8 modem (or faster), the serial port it
is connected to must have a 16550 buffered UART (or compatible). Older
style UARTs store one byte at a time, and a 28.8 modem is fast enough to
send multiple bytes before the computer has time to process the previous
byte.
